Setting up a business in the 21st century is easier than ever – especially online. You can set up an online business with a tool like Shopify or OS Commerce and within days (or even faster) be making sales.
Online advertising is pretty much instant too – just set up with Google's or Bing's PPC platforms and immediatly find people looking for the products that your site sells. A longer term strategy is SEO (search engine optimisation) and that's a very profitable option if you get it right.
One of the key problems though is finding products that are cheap enough to sell online for a profit. With sites like eBay and Amazon selling at lower and lower prices every day, the competition is hard to beat. Add to that the fact that many wholesalers that you may find online are not that reliable – and worse still some are complete scams.
This is where wholesaler directories like Worldwide Brands and Salehoo are useful (read my longer salehoo review here). These are lists of suppliers – both wholesalers and drop shippers – that have been fully checked and verified. These directories list more than just names of wholesalers though – they also list all the products they have available which run into the millions.
